FloPlast Bottle Trap 76mm Seal

The FloPlast Bottle Trap 76mm Seal is the deep seal version of the familiar basin bottle trap. Its 76mm of standing water gives a good barrier between the drain and the room, so it copes better with the suction and pressure changes that can empty a shallow trap.

Choosing a 76mm seal bottle trap

Deep seal traps are the normal choice on basins that discharge into a shared soil stack, which covers most houses and tenement flats. If you have room under the basin, go deep. A shallow seal trap only really belongs where height is tight and the waste run is short. Like any bottle trap, the base unscrews for cleaning, so a blocked basin is often a five-minute job.

Installation notes

Offer the trap up before you cut any pipe, because a deep seal trap drops lower than the old one may have done. Mark the outlet height, then cut the waste pipe square and remove the burr. Seat the washer on the basin waste thread and tighten by hand. Use the Compression nut on the outlet side, again hand tight plus a little. For a 32mm basin feeding a 40mm run, fit the 32mm trap and a 32mm to 40mm adaptor on the outlet side.

Common Questions

What does a 76mm seal mean?

It is the depth of water left standing in the trap, about three inches. A deeper seal stands up better when other appliances or the stack pull on the waste.

Will the 76mm trap fit where my old shallow one was?

It sits lower, so measure from the bottom of the basin waste to the wall pipe before you buy. You may need to lower the outlet pipe slightly.

Can I use the 40mm version on a basin?

Yes, if the waste pipe from the room is 40mm. The trap screws onto the standard basin waste and the outlet then joins the bigger pipe directly.
