FloPlast Washing Machine Kit 40mm

With the FloPlast Washing Machine Kit, the machine drain hose drops into an open standpipe, and a 40mm trap underneath carries the water away into the waste. It is the traditional way of plumbing a washer in where it is not connected to the sink trap.

When to use a washing machine kit

A standpipe works well in utility rooms, garages and kitchens where the machine sits away from the sink. The hose hooks over the top of the pipe, so it is easy to pull the machine out for a service. Because the top of the standpipe is open to air, the machine does not siphon water back out of itself, which can happen with a hose pushed tight into a waste.

Installation pointers

Fix the standpipe to the wall so it stays upright and does not move when the hose is lifted out. Check the machine instructions for how high the top of the standpipe should be, as most makers give a minimum and a maximum. Connect the trap outlet to the 40mm waste with the Compression nut, hand tight. Do not seal the hose into the top of the standpipe. Leave a small air gap round it. A full drain cycle is the best test, because a slow waste will overflow the standpipe at full flow.

How high should a washing machine standpipe be?

Follow the machine maker’s instructions, as most give a minimum and maximum height. The standpipe in this kit can be cut down if it is too tall.

Should the hose be sealed into the standpipe?

No. Leave an air gap round the hose so the machine cannot siphon dirty water back into the drum.

What is the difference between the kit and the washing machine trap?
