Blocked stacks are easier to clear with the FloPlast Ring Seal Access Pipe Socket/Spigot SP274, a short 110mm soil pipe section with a removable access cap, so you can get into the stack to clear a blockage or test it. Its upper end is a Ring Seal socket, and the lower end a plain spigot.
Where the FloPlast Ring Seal Access Pipe Socket/Spigot SP274 goes
The usual place is near the foot of the stack, just before it goes into the underground drain. It is also used higher up where a long stack needs a rodding point.
Fit it with the access facing where someone can reach it with rods. Leave a removable panel if the stack is boxed in.
Take a chamfer off cut ends, grease them lightly and push the joints together. Check the cap seal is clean and seated before testing.
Clip the stack firmly above and below. A rodding point is only useful if it can be reached, so think about future access when the stack is boxed in or a cupboard is built round it.

Common Questions
What is an access pipe? It’s a short length of soil pipe with a removable door, so you can get rods into the stack or test it without taking the pipework apart.
Where should the SP274 go? Most often near the foot of the stack, just before it enters the underground drain. It’s also used higher up where a long stack needs a rodding point.
Can I box it in? Only behind a panel you can remove. If the door is sealed away behind fixed boxing, it can’t do its job.
Is there anything to watch for when opening it on a blocked stack? Stand well to one side, because everything sitting above the blockage will come out when the cover comes off.
How far should the pipe go into the socket? Push it right in with silicone lubricant on the seal, then draw it back about 10mm, as FloPlast advise, to leave room for expansion.
Should I use an access pipe or an access bend? An access pipe goes in a straight part of the stack, while an access bend puts the opening right at a change of direction. Choose whichever lets your rods reach the likely blockage.
What colours is it made in? FloPlast make the SP274 in black, white, grey and anthracite grey, plus a cast iron style version.
