Fitting a low level bath trap

Under a bath there is often only a small gap between the waste outlet and the floorboards, especially with modern baths on short legs. A low level trap is built for that gap. The overflow access lets the overflow hose join the trap, so overflow water goes away through the same 40mm waste. It suits both new bathrooms and the replacement of a cracked old trap.

Fit the trap and overflow while the bath is still easy to reach, ideally before it is pushed back against the wall. Hand tighten the top nut onto the bath waste with the washer seated. Then connect the overflow and make the outlet joint to the 40mm pipe. Keep a steady fall on the waste away from the trap. Fill the bath to the overflow and let it out in one go. That tests both joints and shows up any slow drainage. If you can, leave an access panel in the bath side for later.
