The Galvanised Malleable Iron 90 Deg Elbow M x F turns threaded pipe through a right angle, in sizes from 1/8″ to 2″. With a male end and a female end, it screws straight into a fitting or valve without needing a nipple, which suits fitters on steel pipework.
Where it goes
Galvanised fittings are zinc coated, so they suit water, outdoor and damp jobs where black iron would rust. You see them on cold water, compressed air and outside taps. The male x female layout saves a joint where one side is already a female fitting.
Sizes available
- 1/8″ small gauge and instrument lines.
- 1/4″ small air and water lines.
- 3/8″ small supplies.
- 1/2″ taps and small supplies.
- 3/4″ general water and air.
- 1″ mains and larger supplies.
- 1 1/4″ larger mains.
- 1 1/2″ commercial pipework.
- 2″ the largest size we list.
Fitting tips
Seal the male thread with PTFE tape or a thread paste rated for the job before making it up. Hold the elbow with a second wrench so you do not strain joints further back. Do not overtighten on the last turn just to line it up, as that can split the female end.

Common Questions
What does M x F mean?
It means one end has a male (outside) thread and the other a female (inside) thread. An F x F elbow has female threads at both ends.
Should I use galvanised fittings on gas?
Gas is normally run in black iron, so check what the job calls for first.
Is an elbow the same as a bend?
No. An elbow turns tightly, while a bend has a longer sweep.
