Common Questions

What is this chrome plated ball valve used for? It sits on the supply to a tap or appliance so you can shut the water off right there, without turning off the whole house. The brass body is chrome plated, so it looks neat where the pipe is on show.

How does a brass ball valve work? There is a ball inside with a hole through the middle. A quarter turn of the lever lines the hole up with the pipe to let water through, and turning it back puts the solid side across the flow.

Can I use this ball valve on a gas supply? No, this Speedfit valve is for hot and cold water only. Gas pipework needs gas-approved parts and should be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Do I need to solder this valve onto copper pipe? No, it is push-fit, so there is no flame or solder involved. Speedfit works on both copper and plastic pipe, and no tools are needed.

How do I fit the Speedfit ball valve? Cut the pipe square, take off any burrs and fit a pipe insert if it is plastic pipe. Then push the pipe firmly into the fitting until it is fully home.

How do I take the valve off if it needs replacing? Turn off and drain the water first. Push the release collet in against the fitting and pull the pipe out, which needs no tools.

Is the valve WRAS approved? Yes, it is part of the WRAS approved Speedfit system.
