Description

The JG Speedfit Pipe Insert goes inside the end of Speedfit plastic pipe to stiffen it before it goes into a fitting. Our new site lists the 15mm insert on its own, and our current site lists 10mm, 15mm, 22mm and 28mm. If you are after push fit pipe inserts in 15mm for Speedfit barrier pipe, this is the standard one. It suits plumbers, heating engineers and DIYers who work in plastic pipe.

Plastic pipe is soft, so without an insert it can squash inside the joint and weep or pull out. The insert backs up the pipe wall, so the grip of a push-fit fitting, or the olive of a compression fitting, has something firm to hold. Push it in until the head sits tight against the pipe end. Copper pipe doesn’t need one. John Guest make it for Speedfit pipe, so with another maker’s plastic pipe use that maker’s own insert.

We keep inserts on the counter in Glasgow, so pick up a few spare with your fittings.

Common Questions

Do push fit fittings need inserts?

On plastic pipe, yes. The insert supports the pipe so the fitting can grip and seal it properly.

Do I need an insert on copper pipe?

No. Copper is stiff enough on its own, so it goes straight into a push-fit or compression fitting.

Can I use these inserts in compression fittings?

Yes. Push the insert fully into the plastic pipe before the nut and olive go on, so the olive tightens down over the insert.

How do you cut push fit pipe?

Use plastic pipe cutters and cut it square, not at an angle. A clean, square end lets the insert sit flat and the pipe go fully into the fitting.
