Portland TRV Set 15mm – Straight (Chrome Polished)

The Portland TRV set 15mm is a pair of straight radiator valves in a polished chrome finish: a thermostatic valve for the flow end and a lockshield for the return. Straight bodies are the choice where the pipework runs in sideways from a wall.

Polished chrome scratches if you go at it with grips, so use a proper spanner and wrap the nuts with a cloth. Put the TRV on the flow pipe, which is usually the one that gets hot first when the heating comes on. After fitting, bleed the rad and check every joint while the system is up to temperature.

A little jointing compound on the olives helps, but keep it off the chrome. If the old tails are a different length, adjustable union tails can save moving the pipes.

How do I keep chrome valves from getting marked when fitting?

Use a correctly sized open-ended spanner rather than grips, and wrap the nut in a cloth or tape while you tighten it. Wipe off any flux or jointing paste straight away, because it can stain the finish.

Will these valves fit my existing radiator tails?

The valves take 15mm pipe, and the tail threads into the radiator tapping. If the spacing differs from your old valves, adjustable tails or a small pipe change usually sort it out.
