The Rimini lockshield valve angled 15mm balances the flow through a radiator on 15mm pipe that comes up from the floor. Its cap stops anyone turning the rad off by mistake. Supplied by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
The Rimini lockshield valve angled 15mm goes on the return end of a radiator where the 15mm pipe rises from the floor. Its job is to set how much hot water passes through that rad, so every room in the house heats up evenly.
What a Rimini lockshield valve angled 15mm does
On a system that has never been balanced, rads near the boiler roast while those at the far end stay lukewarm. Closing down the lockshields nearest the boiler pushes more flow to the others. Once each one is set, the cap goes back on and the setting stays put.
- 15mm pipe connection
- Angled pattern for floor pipes
- Lockshield head with a cover cap
- Fits on the return end of the rad
Balancing is done with the heating running. Start with all lockshields fully open, then close the ones nearest the boiler a little at a time until the temperature drop across each rad is about the same. A clip-on thermometer makes it far easier. Mark the number of turns so the next person knows where it was set.
If you are pairing it with a TRV, put the thermostatic valve on the flow side and this one on the return.
More radiator valves and fittings sit in the radiators and accessories section.

Common Questions
How many turns open should a lockshield valve be?
There is no fixed number. Rads close to the boiler often end up only a turn or so open, while the furthest ones stay wide open, so balance them with the heating running.
Can the Rimini lockshield be used with a TRV from another range?
It works with any TRV on the other end, since the two valves do separate jobs. Matching ranges simply look neater on a rad that is on show.
What tool turns a lockshield valve?
Pull off the cap, then turn the spindle with a lockshield key or a small adjustable spanner. Put the cap back once it is set.
