The 15mm reversible TRV angled valve can be fitted on either the flow or return pipe of a radiator, handy when you cannot tell which way the water runs. On the shelf at Plumb Parts, Glasgow.
A 15mm reversible TRV angled valve is a thermostatic radiator valve that works with the water flowing either way through it. That means it can go on whichever end of the radiator suits the pipework.
Why a 15mm reversible TRV angled valve helps
Standard TRVs should be fitted on the flow side, and fitted the wrong way round they can hammer or chatter. In older houses, nobody may know which pipe is the flow. A reversible valve takes that worry away and lets you fit it where it looks neatest.
The angled body suits pipework coming up from the floorboards. Fit a lockshield valve on the other end of the rad for balancing. Set the head to a middle number first and adjust after a day or two, once you know how the room behaves.
Keep the head clear of curtains, shelves and radiator covers, because trapped heat makes it close too early. Drain down or freeze the pipe before you start.

Common Questions
What makes a TRV reversible?
It is made to work with water flowing through it in either direction. So it can go on whichever end of the radiator suits the pipework, without worrying about which pipe is the flow.
How do I find which pipe is the flow?
With the heating on from cold, the flow pipe gets hot first. If you cannot tell, a reversible valve saves you the guesswork.
What setting should I start on?
Start the head on a middle number and leave it for a day or two. Then turn it up or down a notch at a time until the room feels right.
