A Replacement Washer for Immersion Heater Plug reseals a brass immersion blanking plug on a cylinder boss. Fit a fresh one each time the plug comes out. Sold by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
This Replacement Washer for Immersion Heater Plug is the seal that sits between an immersion blanking plug and the boss on a hot water cylinder. It is the part to change if a plug weeps, or whenever the plug has been taken out.
Why use a replacement washer for an immersion heater plug
A washer that has been tightened and heated takes a set, and it rarely seals well a second time. Reusing an old one is a common cause of a slow drip that rots the cylinder jacket or the cupboard floor. A new washer costs little, so it is worth fitting one every time. It also suits the plug we sell, the brass immersion heater plug and washer.
Check the size against your plug, or bring the old washer to the counter.

Common Questions
How do I stop an immersion plug leaking?
Drain below the boss, take out the plug, clean the face and fit a new washer. Then tighten it firmly and check it hot.
Does this washer fit an immersion heater as well as a plug?
It is sold as a spare for the immersion plug. Check the size against your element’s washer before using it there.
Should the cylinder be drained to change the washer?
Yes, drain it below the boss first, otherwise the water will pour out when the plug comes off. Turn off the cold feed before you start.
Fitting tips from a Glasgow merchant
Drain the cylinder below the boss before you remove the plug. Pick out every bit of the old washer and clean the face of the boss, as one stuck fragment is enough to cause a leak. Fit the new washer flat on the plug, screw it in by hand, then tighten firmly with an immersion spanner. Refill and check it cold, then again once the cylinder is up to temperature.
