The Solder Ring Imperial/Metric Coupler connects old imperial sized copper to modern metric copper. Each end is sized to suit its pipe, with a Solder Ring in both sockets.
Why you need a Solder Ring Imperial/Metric Coupler
Before metric sizes came in, copper pipe was measured in inches. Some of those sizes are close to metric but not the same. For example, 3/4″ imperial copper is slightly bigger than 22mm, so a normal 22mm fitting will not go on. Older tenements and houses often still have runs of imperial pipe, especially in lofts and under floors, and this coupler bridges the gap.

Measure the old pipe with a gauge or callipers before ordering, because painted or worn pipe can be confusing. Clean the old pipe very well, as it often has years of tarnish on it. Flux, assemble and heat until the solder shows at both mouths. Find matching parts in our Solder Ring Fittings.

Common Questions
How do I tell if my old pipe is imperial?
Measure the outside with a vernier or calliper. Old imperial pipe is a fraction bigger than the matching metric size, so a 15mm fitting may be tight or not fit at all.
Can I just use a normal 22mm fitting on 3/4″ pipe?
The sizes are very close but not the same, and that small gap can spoil a soldered joint. An imperial to metric coupler takes the guesswork away.
Which end goes on which pipe?
The fitting is marked or visibly larger on the imperial end. Dry fit both pipes first so you know each end is a snug push-on fit before soldering.
