This 110mm Underground 45 Degree Single Socket Bend turns a below-ground drain through half a right angle without needing an extra coupler. The bend has a Ring Seal socket at one end; its plain spigot end drops into the socket of the next pipe or fitting.
Where it gets used
The 45 gets used a lot on foul and surface water runs. It takes a drain round the corner of a house, swings a branch in towards a chamber, or kinks a run past a soakaway or a manhole cover. Put two together with a short bit of pipe between them and you get a slow, sweeping 90 that is far kinder to rodding than one tight bend.
Because one end is a spigot, you save a fitting compared with a double socket bend. The trade-off is you can only cut the pipe that goes into its socket, not the bend itself, so plan which way round it sits before you dig the trench out to finished depth.
Fitting tips
- Wipe the seal and spigot clean, then use pipe lubricant. Dry seals roll out of the groove.
- Seat the spigot right in, then draw it out a touch so the joint can take some movement.
- Bed and surround it in pea gravel the same as the pipe either side.
- Cut pipe square and put a chamfer on it before it goes into the socket.
This one comes in 110mm. Have a look through our underground drainage bends for the 15, 30 and 87.5 degree versions, plus double socket options.

Common Questions
Can you put a bend in underground drainage? Yes, but keep the bends gentle and make sure the run can still be rodded. A long run with a bend needs an access point or chamber nearby.
How do I install underground waste pipe? Lay it on a granular bed with a steady fall, join it with lubricated ring seals and backfill carefully round it. Building control may want to see it before you cover over.
What’s the difference between a single and double socket bend? A single socket bend has a socket on one end and a spigot on the other that goes straight into the next fitting. A double socket bend takes plain pipe on both ends.
How do I make a 90 degree turn with 45 degree bends? Fit two 45s with a short piece of pipe between them. The wider sweep is much easier to rod than one tight bend.
Why do the joints need lubricant? A dry seal can grip the pipe and roll out of its groove as you push, leaving a leak. Ring seal lubricant lets the spigot slide home cleanly.
Does it matter which way round the bend goes? Yes, since only the socket end can take a cut pipe. Plan the direction before you dig down to finished depth.
