FloPlast Underground 87.5 Degree Bend Double Socket 110mm

Taking a buried drain round a square corner is the job of this 110mm Underground 87.5 Degree Bend Double Socket, which has a Ring Seal socket at each end for plain pipe. It suits tight spots where there isn’t room for two 45s or a long radius bend.

Where it fits in

You’ll mostly see these where a drain leaves the house wall and has to head straight out, or where a branch runs along a footing and then turns away. The slight angle past 90 keeps a little fall through the turn so water doesn’t sit in it.

The catch with any tight bend is access. Rods don’t love an 87.5, so if the drain is long or carries a lot of foul waste, think about putting an access fitting or chamber near the turn. At the base of a soil stack, use a rest bend instead.

Fitting tips

• Cut pipe square, chamfer it, and clean out the sockets before jointing.
• Use pipe lubricant on the spigot ends.
• Push in fully, then pull back about 10mm to leave room for expansion.
• Bed in gravel and check both legs fall the right way before you backfill.

Common Questions

Why is it 87.5 degrees and not 90?

The half degree each side builds a slight fall into the turn. That keeps water and waste moving through the corner rather than sitting in it.

Can I rod through an 87.5 degree bend?

Rods will get round, though less easily than through a swept bend. If the layout allows, add an access point nearby so a blockage can be cleared from either side.

What lubricant should I use on drain seals?

Use a pipe lubricant made for rubber ring seals. Washing up liquid and grease can harm the rubber or wash away, so they are not a good swap.
