Description

The 110mm Underground 87.5 Degree Single Socket Bend makes a near-square turn on a buried drain, socket on one end and spigot on the other. The spigot pushes into the socket of a pipe length or another fitting, saving a coupler.

Where it’s used

Turning a drain away from a wall, bringing a branch into the side of a run, or getting round a tight corner where there is no room for anything longer. The 87.5 degree angle leaves a little fall through the turn, which helps the flow compared with a dead 90.

Because it is a tight bend, it isn’t the best for rodding. Use two 45s or a long radius bend where you can, and fit a rest bend rather than this at the bottom of a soil stack.

Fitting tips

  • Work out the direction of flow first. Spigots should point downstream into the next socket.
  • Clean everything, lubricate the seal and spigot, and push the joint fully home.
  • Bed in gravel, keeping the bend stable as you surround it.
  • Test the drain before backfilling where Building Control needs to see it.

We sell it in 110mm. The double socket 87.5 and the gentler angles are on our underground drainage bends page.

Common Questions

Does a single socket bend need a coupler?

No coupler is needed at the spigot end, which pushes into a neighbouring socket. The socket end takes a plain pipe, so in many runs no coupler is needed at all.

How should I test the drain before backfilling?

Plug the open ends and run an air or water test across the new section. If building standards need to see it, book the inspection before any fill goes over the pipe.

Can I use an 87.5 degree bend under a driveway?

Yes, as long as the drain has enough cover or extra protection for the traffic above. Bed and surround the bend well, as a heavy load finds any weak support.
