Washing Machine Hose Red, 1.5m or 2.5m long, for the hot fill on machines that take a hot supply. Red marks the hot side, so it is easy to tell which valve feeds which inlet. Sold by Plumb Parts, Glasgow.

Description

The Washing Machine Hose Red is a flexible fill hose for the hot side. It runs from a hot appliance valve to the hot inlet on machines that still take a hot supply, and the red colour stops anyone mixing up the two feeds.

Most modern washing machines are cold fill only, so check the back of yours before you buy. Older machines and some dishwashers have a hot inlet, and that is where this hose goes. If a machine with two inlets is being fed from cold only, follow the maker’s instructions instead of guessing. Red and blue hoses together make it obvious which valve to shut off later.

  • Colour: red, for the hot fill
  • Lengths: 1.5m or 2.5m
  • Runs from a hot appliance valve to the hot inlet
  • Pairs with the blue hose on twin-fill machines

Fitting the washing machine hose red

Shut the hot valve off before you start. Look inside each nut to check the sealing washer is in place, because a missing washer is the usual cause of a drip. Tighten by hand and then give a gentle nip, no more. Choose the shorter length if the valve is close, since spare hose kinks when the machine is pushed back. Open up slowly and look for weeps at both ends. More hoses are listed in our washing machine hoses category.

Common Questions

Do I need a red hose?

Only if the machine has a hot inlet as well as a cold one. Most new washing machines are cold fill, so check the back first.

Can I use the red hose on the cold side?

It would work, but keep red for hot. Mixed colours confuse the next person who works behind the machine.

What if my machine is cold fill and I have a hot valve?

Leave the hot valve shut and capped, or remove it. Do not connect a hot supply to a cold fill inlet.
