Brass Y Strainer Compression 15mm to 28mm

Brass compression strainers in 15mm and 22mm, and Y pattern in 15mm, 22mm and 28mm. Fit ahead of pressure reducing valves, meters and pumps.

A strainer catches grit, scale and swarf in a mesh screen before it gets to pumps, valves and boilers. Fit it with the arrow pointing the way of flow, and on a level run keep the screen cap pointing down so dirt drops into it.

How do I clean a Y strainer? Isolate it, undo the screen cap, take out the mesh, rinse it and put it back with the seal in place.

Where should a strainer go? Before the thing you want to protect: ahead of a pressure reducing valve, pump, meter or boiler, with isolating valves either side so the screen can come out without draining down.

Y strainer or magnetic filter? A plain Y strainer catches grit and scale. A magnetic filter also pulls out the black iron oxide sludge found in heating systems, so it is the better pick on a boiler return.
