For threaded pipework, the Blue Lever Ball Valve F x F gives a quick shut-off with female threads at both ends. The blue lever shows it is for water, and a quarter turn takes it from fully open to fully closed.

Choosing a Blue Lever Ball Valve F x F

The small sizes, 1/4″ and 3/8″, suit gauges, small equipment and drain lines. 1/2″ and 3/4″ are the usual domestic sizes, for example on water heaters, pumps and threaded mains. 1″, 1.1/4″, 1.1/2″ and 2″ are for larger steel or threaded supplies in commercial buildings and plant rooms.

Tape or paste the male threads before they go in. Hold the valve with a spanner on the end you are tightening, not by the lever or the middle of the body, so it does not distort. Leave room for the lever to swing a full quarter turn.

What thread is on a F x F ball valve?

Both ends are female, for screwing onto male threads such as nipples or barrel. Check the size against the pipe thread, not the outside of the pipe.

How should I seal the threads?

Wrap PTFE tape or brush a paste onto the male thread before it goes in. Hold the valve on the flats nearest the joint while tightening.

Which size for a water heater feed?

Most small domestic heaters and pumps use 1/2″ or 3/4″. Look at the inlet on the appliance before ordering.
