Common Questions
What is a compression chrome plated male elbow? It’s a 90 degree fitting with a compression end for the pipe and a male BSP thread on the other. It lets you turn a corner and connect to threaded equipment in one fitting.
What should I use to seal the BSP thread on this elbow? PTFE tape with thread compound over it gives a reliable seal. Wind the tape clockwise as you look at the end of the male thread, so it doesn’t unwind when you screw it in.
Can I use this compression elbow on plastic pipe? Yes, it suits copper pipe, or plastic pipe as long as you fit a pipe insert in the end. It comes in 15mm x 1/2 inch, 22mm x 3/4 inch and 28mm x 1 inch.
Can I reposition the elbow once it’s fitted? You get a little bit of adjustment before the final tightening. If it needs a big turn, take it apart and remake the thread with fresh sealant.
How tight should the threaded end be? Screw it in by hand until it starts to stiffen, then give it a turn or two more with a spanner. Going much further can damage the thread.
What is the chrome male elbow made from? It’s chrome plated CZ121 brass with a working pressure of 20 bar.
