Put simply, the Compression DZR Male Coupler is a straight adaptor with a Compression end for copper tube and a male BSP thread on the other. It is made in DZR brass, so dezincification is much less of a worry than with ordinary brass.
What it is used for
Going from copper into a female threaded port in a straight line. That covers valves with female ends, tank and cylinder bosses, pump flanges with threaded tails, manifolds, and connections onto steel pipe through a female socket. It is one of the most useful adaptors to keep in a range of sizes.
Sizes available
- 15mm x 1/2″ and 15mm x 3/4″
- 22mm x 3/4″ and 22mm x 1″
- 28mm x 1″
- 35mm x 1 1/4″, 42mm x 1 1/2″ and 54mm x 2″
Fitting tips from the Glasgow counter
Seal the male thread with PTFE or a suitable jointing compound, wound or brushed in the direction of the thread. Screw the coupler into the port first with a spanner on the hex, then make the Compression joint onto the copper. Doing it in that order stops the pipe getting twisted. On the bigger sizes, a few extra wraps of tape and a firm, steady pull on the spanner make for a dry joint first time.
You will find the female threaded version of the Compression DZR Male Coupler in our Compression DZR fittings too.
Collect couplers from Plumb Parts, 555 South Street, Glasgow G14 0QX. Its counter keeps Mon-Fri 8am-5pm and Sat-Sun 8am-1pm hours, and orders also go online.

Common Questions
DZR male coupler or a tank connector: which goes into a tank?
A tank connector. It has a backnut and washers to clamp and seal through the tank wall. A male coupler is for screwing into a threaded female port.
Can I use jointing paste instead of PTFE on the thread?
Yes, a paste that suits the job and the water type works well. Use one or the other, applied to the male thread only.
How do I stop the copper twisting as I tighten?
Screw the coupler into the port first. Then make the Compression joint while holding the coupler body with a second spanner.
