A Double Panel Double Convector 400mm High Radiator is the one to look at when a window sill sits low and you still need decent heat. As a Type 22, sometimes called K2, it has two panels and two rows of convector fins.
Many older Glasgow flats have deep sills and a short run of wall beneath the window. A 400mm high radiator slots in there and keeps the heat where cold air drops off the glass. The double convector build gives more output than a single panel of the same size. So you can often keep the length down and still heat the room properly.

Fitting the double panel double convector 400mm high radiator
Measure under the sill, then leave room for the brackets and for air to rise past the top grille. Work out your pipe centres from the radiator before cutting tails. Hang it, fit a pair of radiator valves, then fill, vent and check every joint. If you are swapping an old radiator, the new pipe centres may not match, so offset valves or a short extension can help. Will a 400mm K2 keep a cold window warm?
It sits under the glass and heats the air that drops off it, which is where a radiator does most good. The double panel helps with cold, single glazed windows.
Do K2 radiators need special valves?
No, standard radiator valves fit. Pick straight or angled to suit how the pipes come in.
Can a 400mm Type 22 replace a 600mm single panel?
Often, if the room’s heat needs are met. Compare outputs before you swap, and check the pipe centres.
