Air that collects at the top of a pipe run stops water moving and makes noise, and the End Feed Capillary Air Vent gives it a way out. It solders into the pipework like any End Feed fitting and has a small vent that you open to release the air.
Where to fit an End Feed Capillary Air Vent
Put it at the highest point of a run, for example where a heating pipe climbs over a doorway and drops again, or at the top of a riser. When the system is filled, open the vent until water comes out with no air, then close it.
There is no solder built in, so bring wire solder. Prepare the pipe and sockets with a clean and a coat of flux, then heat and solder. Keep the vent closed while you heat, and let the fitting cool before you test it.

Manual or automatic air vent: which is better?
A manual vent like this one cannot stick open and leak, but someone has to open it after filling. An automatic vent clears air by itself.
Should the vent be open while soldering?
Keep it closed while you heat and let the fitting cool before testing, so the vent seal is not damaged.
