Flexible Waste Rainwater Couplings join two lengths of waste pipe or downpipe with a rubber sleeve and clips, and they don’t care much what either pipe is made of. Some of our sizes are straight, others step down from one size to another.
What they’re used for
They’re the go-to fix for joining old and new: a cast iron downpipe into a plastic shoe, a basin waste into an old lead or copper pipe, or a sink waste into an odd sized trap outlet. The rubber takes up a small amount of misalignment, and the clamped ends make a watertight joint for gravity flow. They’re not meant for pressurised pipes.
Sizes available
The smaller sizes suit sink, basin and bath wastes. The 2 1/2 and 3 inch sizes fit common round downpipes and bigger waste runs. Sizes are nominal, so measure the outside of both pipes before choosing.
Fitting tips
Cut both ends square and clean off old paint, rust or sealant where the rubber will grip. Push each pipe in until it’s fully home, and tighten the clips evenly. Outside, check the clips won’t sit where water lies or where they can be knocked. If you need extra clips, we sell them separately. Common Questions
Which size suits a sink or basin waste?
The smaller sizes from 1 1/4″ up to 1 1/2″ suit most sink, basin and bath wastes. Measure the outside of both pipes, because an old metal waste can sit between sizes.
Will it join a cast iron downpipe to a plastic shoe?
Yes, the rubber grips both, so it suits that kind of mixed repair on a rainwater pipe. Scrape off flaking paint and rust where the rubber sits so the clip can pull it tight.
Can these couplings be used outside?
Yes, they are often used on downpipes and external wastes. Position the clip screws where you can get at them and where they will not be knocked.
