Changing a waste from 40mm to 32mm without leaving a step for water to sit in is what the FloPlast ABS Solvent Waste Level Invert Reducer WS50 is for. It keeps the bottom of the pipe, the invert, in a straight line through the size change.

Why the FloPlast ABS Solvent Waste Level Invert Reducer WS50 drains better

A standard reducer steps down around the centre line, which leaves a small lip at the bottom. Water and debris can sit behind it. With a level invert, the bottom of the bore runs through flat, so the waste empties fully. Use it where a 32mm basin waste meets a 40mm run, or where a run changes size along its length.

Make sure the flat side faces down when you glue it. Mark it during the dry fit, since you cannot turn it once the cement takes. Clean, deburr and dry the pipe ends, then cement both surfaces.
