FloPlast S-Traps are white plastic traps with a vertical outlet, sold in 32mm and 40mm with 38mm or 76mm seals, for basins and sinks where the waste goes down through the floor. Pick it up from Plumb Parts in Glasgow.

FloPlast S-Traps drop from the waste, loop round through the water seal, then turn back down, so the outlet points at the floor. Pick one when the waste pipe comes up through the floorboards under a sink or basin rather than out of the wall behind it.
When FloPlast S-traps make sense
You see them on older installs, island units, and anywhere the drain runs under the floor. They work fine, but a long vertical drop after an S-trap can siphon the water out of it. That is why the deep 76mm seal is the safer pick on most jobs, and why an air admittance valve on the run can help. The 38mm seal is for short, simple runs.
Tips for a dry joint, from our Glasgow counter
Get the floor pipe cut to height last, once the trap is hanging from the waste in its final position. A square cut, deburred, will slide into the Compression end and seal on the washer. Tighten plastic nuts by hand and just nip them a touch more. When you test, fill the sink fully and let it all go at once, because that is when a poor seal or a siphon problem shows up. A gurgle as it empties is a warning sign.

Common Questions
Why do S-traps sometimes lose their water?
The water falling straight down after the trap can siphon the seal out. Keep the drop short, choose the 76mm seal, and fit an air admittance valve if it still empties.
Can I turn an S-trap into a P-trap layout?
Only by moving the waste pipe so it runs through the wall. If you cannot do that, stay with an S-trap.
Which code is the 40mm deep seal S-trap?
FloPlast call it TS47. The 32mm deep seal version is TS37.
