Sinks, baths, showers and appliances run in 40mm. This elbow takes the waste round a corner, through a wall and down outside, or up behind a unit to a trap.

Square off and deburr the pipe ends. Slip on the nut and seal, push the pipe in to the stop, then hand tighten and add a small turn.

Compression joints can come apart later, handy if the kitchen is refitted.

Clip close to the bend, and keep the horizontal run falling towards the outlet. Check the nuts once hot water has run through. Where a washing machine empties into the run, clip the pipe firmly, as pump-out surges shake loose pipework. Compression fittings also suit joining onto old waste of unknown make, which is common on kitchen refits.

Common Questions

Will the WC11 fit 1 1/2 inch waste pipe?

40mm is the metric size that replaced 1 1/2 inch, and FloPlast list them together. Check the outside of the old pipe; it should measure close to 40mm.

What clip spacing is needed on 40mm waste?

FloPlast give 0.5m between clips on level 40mm runs and 1.2m on upright runs. Put one close to each side of the elbow too.

Can hot water from a washing machine damage it?

FloPlast make these fittings in polypropylene for normal domestic waste, including washing machine and dishwasher discharge. Just clip it well, as the pump-out can shake the pipe.
