Gas Tape One Wrap As Shown is a thick, gas grade PTFE thread tape for sealing threaded joints on gas pipework or high pressure water fittings. Sold by Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
Gas Tape One Wrap As Shown is a thick, gas grade PTFE tape for sealing threaded joints. It is heavier than standard white tape, so it builds up a seal with fewer turns.
Where to use Gas Tape One Wrap As Shown
Gas fitters use thick tape on taper threads such as meter unions, cooker bayonet points and fittings on gas carcass work. It also suits threaded joints on water pipework where the pressure is high. Thin water tape is not meant for gas, so keep the two apart in the van. Keep a roll of each and you will never grab the wrong one.
Clean the male thread first, because grease and old compound stop the tape seating. Wrap in the same direction as the thread tightens, so the tape winds on rather than off as you screw the fitting home. Start a thread or two back from the end so no strands get into the pipe. Pull it tight as you go and press it into the threads with a thumb. After assembly on gas, always carry out a tightness test. More tapes, fluxes and leak detectors are in our gas and maintenance range.

Common Questions
What is the difference between gas tape and water PTFE tape?
Gas tape is thicker and denser, so it builds a seal on gas threads with fewer wraps. White water tape is thinner and not meant for gas joints.
Can anyone use gas tape on a gas joint?
Anyone can buy the tape. The work is another matter: the law says gas joints in a home are for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and a tightness test follows.
Can gas tape be used on water threads?
Yes, the heavier tape works on water threads too, and some plumbers like it on larger fittings. Just do not use thin water tape on gas.
