Uses for a Geberit Mapress 316 Stainless Steel Adaptor Union Male Thread and Plain End

It is mostly found on tight assemblies, for example a valve set on a pump or a meter close to a tee. Instead of cutting a short stub, you plug the spigot into the socket of the tee or elbow. Then the union lets you take the equipment out later. It keeps the build short and serviceable.

Do the threaded joint first, with a sealant that is safe for stainless. Once that is tight, mark the plain end for depth, insert it in the mating socket and press it. Line the union up properly before tightening, because a union pulled into line will often weep. Store spare fittings with their caps on, if supplied, so the spigot stays clean. Common Questions

How do you press Mapress 316 stainless steel fittings? Push the plain end fully into the socket of another Mapress fitting, then press that joint with a tool fitted with M contour jaws. Always use the jaws to suit the size you’re working on.

How do you use a union fitting? A union gives you a joint you can undo later without cutting the pipe. On this adaptor the male threaded side is the part you can take apart, which is handy next to kit that may need to come out for servicing.

How long do press fittings last? Fitted properly, a stainless press joint should give a long working life. What matters most is clean, square pipe, full insertion and the correct jaws on the press tool.

How can I tell if the fitting has been pressed? The blue pressing indicator shows whether the fitting has been pressed, and the size is printed on it too. Any joint left unpressed will leak, so it shows up straight away on a pressure test.
