A height adjustable syphon that extends from 7 1/2″ to 9″ to suit a range of lever flush cisterns. Internal overflow and adjustable flush volume. Order it from Plumb Parts, Glasgow.
A height adjustable syphon is the lever-operated flushing mechanism found in traditional toilet cisterns. This one adjusts from 7 1/2″ up to 9″, so a single part covers cisterns of different depths.
Fitting the height adjustable syphon
The syphon lifts water over its bend and down into the pan when the handle is pulled. If the toilet takes several pulls to flush, or keeps running, the syphon or its diaphragm is usually to blame. Because the height adjusts, you can match it to the old one without hunting for an exact size.
- Adjusts from 7 1/2″ to 9″
- For lever operated cisterns
- Internal overflow
- Flush volume can be set
Isolate the water, empty the cistern and disconnect the flush pipe or lift off a close coupled cistern. Undo the large backnut and remove the old syphon. Set the new one to the right height, fit its seals and tighten the backnut firmly by hand plus a little.
Reconnect the lever arm and check it lifts the syphon fully. Then refill and test the flush.
Handle kits and syphon washers are with our cistern fittings.

Common Questions
What height of syphon does my cistern need?
Measure the overall height of the old syphon. If it falls between 7 1/2″ and 9″, this one can be set to match it.
My toilet only flushes on the second or third pull. Do I need a whole syphon?
Often only the diaphragm washer inside has worn. Try a new diaphragm first. If the syphon body is cracked or the flush is still weak, replace the syphon.
Can it go in a close coupled cistern?
It can, but the cistern has to come off the pan because the syphon is held by the backnut underneath. Fit a new doughnut washer while it is apart.
