Toilet Handle Kit 3/8″

The toilet handle kit here is the 3/8″ size, for cisterns that take the smaller fitting. It replaces a snapped or loose handle so the flush works again without changing the whole cistern.

Is the 3/8″ toilet handle kit the right one

Handle kits come in more than one size, and the wrong one will not tighten properly. Compare the old handle or measure the fitting before you buy. If in doubt, bring the old part to the counter.

Lift off the lid and disconnect the lever from the flush link. Undo the nut on the back of the handle and pull it out. Fit the new handle, nip up the nut, and reconnect the link.

Set the link so the full stroke of the handle lifts the valve or syphon properly. Then flush a few times to make sure the handle returns on its own. If the cistern lid sits tight against the lever, check it is not rubbing as it moves.

Common Questions

The old handle snapped inside the cistern. Can I still use this kit?

Yes, if the cistern takes the 3/8″ size. Fish out every piece of the old handle and lever arm first, so nothing jams the new one.

How tight should the handle nut be?

Hand tight and then a little more, enough to stop the handle body turning. Overdo it and the plastic can split, or even the cistern.

Is a 3/8″ handle just a 1/2″ one with a smaller nut?

No. The two are made for different fittings, and the wrong one will either not go through the hole or will never tighten up properly.
