The Underground 15 Degree Bend Double Socket makes a gentle change of direction in 110mm below ground drainage. Sockets at both ends take plain pipe. Available at Plumb Parts in Glasgow.

Description

The Underground 15 Degree Bend Double Socket lets a 110mm buried drain change direction by a small angle. Both ends are sockets with seals, so plain ended pipe pushes straight into each side.

Using an Underground 15 Degree Bend Double Socket

Drains work best with long, gentle curves rather than sharp corners. A 15 degree bend lets you steer a run round an obstacle, line up with a manhole or follow a boundary. Because both ends are sockets, you can drop it in between two lengths of pipe without needing a coupler.

  • For below ground drainage

Cut the pipe square and chamfer the end, then wipe on some lubricant before pushing it in. Mark the depth and pull back slightly, to leave a small gap for expansion. Bed the bend on proper pipe bedding and surround it, keeping the fall right through the bend. Building control will want to see the run tested before you backfill. Common Questions

Why would I need a 15 degree bend?

It corrects a run that is drifting off line, or follows a gentle curve in a boundary or path. Two together give a 30 degree turn if the trench needs a little more.

What fall does a 110mm drain need?

A common target for a foul drain is about 1 in 40, but the right figure depends on the flow and what is connected. Ask your council’s building standards team if the drain is part of a warrant.

Do I need lubricant on the seals?

Yes, always use pipe lubricant on the spigot. A dry spigot drags the seal out of its groove, and that joint will leak when the drain is tested.
