Description

The Underground 45 Degree Plain End Bend with Channel Access is used inside a built manhole or inspection chamber, where the drain needs to change direction by 45 degrees and stay open for rodding and testing. Both ends are plain, ready to go into 110mm Ring Seal sockets.

Where it goes

Channel bends are the answer when a plastic inspection chamber won’t do, usually on deeper drains or where you’re building the chamber in brick or concrete. The bend is set in the benching at the bottom of the chamber, so the flow turns through the chamber in an open channel you can get at from above with rods or a camera.

A 45 is used when a branch drain joins the main run at an angle inside the chamber, or when the run leaves the chamber on a different line from the way it came in.

Fitting tips

  • Set the bend on a concrete base and build the benching up round it, sloping towards the channel.
  • Line the plain ends up with the pipes going through the chamber walls before the concrete goes off.
  • Use a socketed pipe or a coupler on each end, with lubricant on the spigots.
  • Leave a short length of pipe outside the wall with a flexible joint close to it, so settlement doesn’t crack the pipe.

It comes in 110mm. The 87.5 degree channel bend and the plain long radius bends are in our underground drainage bends.

Common Questions

What is a channel bend used for?

It forms the open channel in the bottom of a built chamber, where the drain turns. Because the top is open, you can see the flow and rod in either direction.

How is a plain end channel bend fixed in a chamber?

It is set in a concrete base, and benching is built up round it so the sides fall back into the channel. The plain ends meet the pipes passing through the chamber walls.

Do I need a chamber at every 45 degree bend?

No. Many bends sit in the run with no chamber at all. A channel bend is only used where the bend falls inside a manhole you are building anyway.
