Description

Swing a buried drain round a corner without a tight turn using this 110mm Underground 87.5 Degree Plain End Bend Long Radius. It has plain ends both sides and fits into the Ring Seal socket of a pipe, coupler or another fitting.

What it’s used for

It does the same job as a normal 87.5 bend but over a much wider curve. Waste flows round it more easily, and rods and drain cameras go through it far better. Plenty of installers use one where the drain turns away from the house and there’s no chamber at the corner, as it gives you a fighting chance if the drain ever blocks there.

It is a plain ended fitting, so think about what it pushes into. Socketed pipe lengths work well, or a double socket coupler if you are using plain ended pipe.

Fitting tips

  • Set out with the bend on the ground first. The long radius takes up more room than you’d think.
  • Clean and lubricate both spigots. Push them fully into the sockets, then back off slightly.
  • Give it a full gravel bed along the curve, not just under the ends.
  • Check your falls on both legs, then surround and backfill.

The 110mm size is offered. Shorter bends in 15, 30, 45 and 87.5 degrees are listed with our underground bends.

Common Questions

What is the difference between a long radius bend and a short one?

A long radius bend turns the same angle over a wider curve. Flow is smoother, and rods and drain cameras pass round it far more easily.

How do I connect a plain ended bend?

Each plain end goes into a socket, either on a single socket pipe or on a coupler. Lubricate the spigot and push it fully into the seal.

Is a long radius bend needed at the foot of a soil stack?

Many layouts use a long radius bend or a rest bend there so waste coming down the stack turns smoothly. Building standards rules set what is needed, so check your drawings.
