SKU TRVA15
Description

Our radiator valves 15mm listing covers the three types used on a radiator: TRV, manual and lockshield, each in angled and straight patterns, all for 15mm pipe. Our current site lists the 15mm TRV angled on its own, which is the usual pick when the pipe comes up through the floor. They suit plumbers fitting new radiators and anyone replacing old or seized valves.

A radiator needs one valve at each end. One end is the control: a TRV, which opens and closes on its own to hold the room temperature, or a manual wheelhead you turn by hand. The other end is a lockshield, which is set once when balancing the system and then left with its cap on. Angled valves turn the flow through 90 degrees, so they suit pipe coming up from the floor. Straight valves suit pipe coming out of the wall, in line with the radiator.

We keep radiator valves at our Glasgow counter, so a seized or leaking valve can be swapped the same day.

Common Questions

Which radiator valves do I need?

One valve at each end: a TRV or manual valve to control the radiator, and a lockshield to balance it. Then pick angled or straight to suit whether the pipe comes from the floor or the wall.

Are all radiator valves the same size?

Most UK radiators run on 15mm pipe with a 1/2″ tail into the radiator, so the common valves swap over. Microbore 8mm or 10mm pipe needs reducers, and the body length can differ, so the tail may need changing.

Should every radiator have a TRV?

Not the one in the room with the main room thermostat. If both try to control the same room they fight each other.

How do I change a radiator valve?

Drain the system down below the valve, undo the old valve and take out its tail. Seal the new tail into the radiator, make up the pipe joint with a new olive, then refill and bleed the radiator.
