A 1/2″ bottom entry valve for filling a WC cistern from underneath. Height adjustable, compact and quiet, with an adjustable float to set the water level. Ask for it at Plumb Parts in Glasgow.
This bottom entry valve fills a toilet cistern where the water supply comes up through the base. It has a 1/2″ connection and a compact body, so it suits cisterns with not much room inside.
Features of the bottom entry valve
The valve height adjusts to suit the cistern, and the float can be set to give the right water level. It refills quietly, which is worth having in a flat where the toilet is next to a bedroom. Most modern close coupled cisterns are bottom fed, so this is a common repair part.
- 1/2″ bottom entry connection
- Height adjustable body
- Adjustable float for the water level
- Quiet refill and compact design
Turn off the isolating valve, flush the cistern and mop out the rest. Undo the supply connector and the backnut, lift the old valve out, then fit the new one with its washer inside the cistern. Set the height before you tighten the backnut. Hand tight plus a little more is enough on plastic.
Set the water level a little below the overflow, then test a few flushes. Watch that the valve shuts off cleanly each time.
Bottom inlet valves and flush parts are in our cistern fittings range.

Common Questions
Bottom entry or side entry: which one do I need?
Look at where the supply pipe meets the cistern. If it comes up through the base, a bottom entry valve like this one is right. If the pipe goes into the side near the top, you need a side entry valve.
How do I set the water level in the cistern?
Adjust the float until the level sits a fraction under the overflow, which is often marked inside the cistern or on the flush valve. Make small changes and flush between each one.
Why does my new fill valve top up every so often?
That is usually the flush valve letting water seep into the pan, not the fill valve. Add a few drops of food colouring to the cistern and see if colour appears in the bowl without flushing.
