Chrome Compression Fittings

Common Questions

Does the tap end need a washer?

Yes. The seal on the tap tail is made by a fibre or rubber washer inside the nut, not by the thread. Check it is sitting flat before you tighten, and keep PTFE off that thread.

Will it take chrome plated pipe as well as plain copper?

It will. 15mm chrome plated copper has the same outside size as bare copper, so it goes into the Compression end with the olive in the normal way.

How do I tighten it without scratching the chrome?

Use a spanner that fits the nut snugly rather than grips, and wrap the jaws with tape or a cloth. An adjustable that slips will mark the plating in one go.
