Description

Getting a pipe into or out of a water tank needs a sealed joint through the tank wall, and a Compression Flange Tank Connector makes it. The threaded body passes through a hole in the tank, the flange sits on one side and a backnut pulls it tight on the other. The pipe then connects with a nut and olive.

Fitting a Compression Flange Tank Connector

Drill or cut a clean hole of the right size, away from any curve or rib in the tank wall. Use the sealing washers on both faces of a plastic tank, then tighten the backnut firmly but not hard enough to distort the plastic. After that, make up the pipe joint as normal.

The common sizes are 15mm and 22mm for cold water feeds and outlets on loft tanks and cisterns. 28mm and above are for larger storage tanks and commercial vessels, and 8mm and 10mm suit small vents and feeds.

  • Sizes: 8mm, 10mm, 15mm, 22mm, 28mm, 35mm, 42mm and 54mm
  • Flange and backnut to clamp the tank wall
  • Compression connection for the pipe
  • For cold water storage tanks and cisterns

Common Questions

Flange tank connector: do the washers go inside or outside the tank?

One each side of the tank wall, so the wall is clamped between two seals. The flange goes on one face and the backnut on the other.

Can I drill the hole with a normal drill bit?

Use a hole saw of the right size for a clean, round hole. A ragged hole stops the washers sealing and can split a plastic tank.

Why is my new tank connector weeping?

Usually the backnut is not tight enough, the hole is rough, or a washer has slipped. Drain below it, check the washers and tighten evenly while supporting the tank wall.
