Description

Straight Copper Pipe 8mm is the smallest copper we cut, available in 1m, 2m, 3m and 6m lengths. It’s a specialist size, mostly found on older microbore heating installs and on small feeds where only a trickle of flow is needed.

Expect it on 8mm microbore radiator tails off a manifold, gauge and instrument lines, and some appliance connections. A straight length gives a neater finish than coil when the pipe is on show. For long runs under floors, our 8mm x 10m coil is easier to work with.

All straight lengths are counter collection.

Use 8mm Compression fittings, plus reducers to join into 10mm or 15mm. Because the bore is so small, any burr left inside makes a real difference, so deburr every cut and blow the pipe through before connecting. A small pipe slice cuts it cleanly without squashing the end. Bend it with an 8mm spring or a mini bender, and avoid tight kinks. On heating, microbore at 8mm is very sensitive to sludge, so it pays to flush and dose the system with inhibitor when you’re done.

You might also want 8mm olives and nuts, a mini cutter, or an 8mm to 15mm reducer. See our full copper pipe selection for the other sizes.

Common Questions

How do I check if my pipe is 8mm? Measure across the outside or try a fitting you know is 8mm. Once painted, 8mm and 10mm look almost identical, so check before you buy.

Can I cut 8mm copper with a hacksaw? Better not, as the thin 0.6mm wall crushes easily. A small pipe slice gives a cleaner cut, and always deburr, because a burr blocks a big share of such a small bore.

What is 8mm copper used for? Mostly repairs and alterations on older microbore heating, plus small feeds that only need a trickle of flow.

Do I need an insert with 8mm push-fit fittings? Yes, fit a support insert in the pipe end when you use push-fit. It stops the thin copper being squeezed out of shape.

Should I buy straight lengths or coil? Straight lengths look much tidier where the pipe is on show, such as a radiator tail coming up through the floor. For long runs under a floor, 8mm coil bends by hand and saves on joints.

What lengths does it come in? It comes in 2m and 3m straight lengths, both for counter collection.
