A K2 radiator, or Type 22, has two steel panels with a row of convector fins behind each one. Two panels and two sets of fins give out more heat than a single panel radiator of the same size. That makes it a good pick for cold rooms, bays and systems run at lower temperatures. Being double depth, it sits further off the wall, so check clearance behind doors and curtains. It connects to a wet central heating system through radiator valves on the tails at the bottom. Fix the brackets into something solid, as a long K2 full of water is heavy.

Common Questions

What is a Type 22 radiator? A Type 22, also called a K2, is a double panel double convector radiator, with two panels and two sets of fins behind them. This one is 600mm high and comes in lengths from 400mm up to 3000mm.

What is the difference between a Type 11 and a Type 22 radiator? A Type 11 has one panel and one set of convector fins, while a Type 22 has two of each. That makes the Type 22 deeper but gives more heat from the same height and length.

Can I replace a single panel radiator with this double panel one? Usually yes, but a double panel sits further out from the wall, so check you have the room. Also check the valve positions and brackets will line up with your existing pipework.

Are double panel radiators worth it? They make sense where you need plenty of heat but don’t have much wall to play with, as you get more output from the same size. The trade-off is that they’re deeper and sit further off the wall.

How do I bleed a Type 22 radiator? With the heating off and the radiator cooled down, fit a radiator key to the bleed valve at the top and open it slowly. Close it once the hissing stops and water appears, then check your boiler pressure.

What comes with the 600mm double convector radiator? The grille, side covers, brackets and the bleed and blanking plugs all come in the box. Radiator valves are bought separately.
