Where there is any risk of dirty water being sucked back into the mains, the Hep2O Double Check Valve is a simple guard. It has two one-way valves in series, so water can only flow in the direction of the arrow.
Where to fit a Hep2O Double Check Valve
Common places are the supply to an outside tap, a washing machine, a dishwasher or a boiler filling point. Water regulations set out where backflow protection is needed, so check the rules for the appliance you are feeding.
Fit it with the arrow pointing the way the water flows, away from the supply. Put a support sleeve in each pipe end and push the pipe home until it locks. Fit it where it can be reached, and fit an isolating valve before it if you can, so it can be checked or changed without shutting off the house.
Other valves are listed in our Hep2O fittings range.

Common Questions
What does a double check valve do? It lets water go one way only, so if the mains pressure drops, water that might be dirty cannot be drawn back into your clean supply. This one has two separate spring-loaded checks, so the second one covers you if the first sticks.
Do I need a double check valve on an outside tap? Garden taps are a common backflow risk, because hoses get left in ponds, buckets and sprayers. A double check valve on the feed is the usual way to protect the drinking water.
Where should a double check valve be fitted? As close as you can get it to the point where contamination could get in, such as the cold feed to an unvented cylinder. Make sure the arrow on the body points the way the water flows.
How do I fit the Hep2O double check valve? Cut the pipe square with a proper cutter, deburr it and push a SmartSleeve insert into any plastic pipe. Push the pipe into the socket until the In4Sure system clicks to show it is seated.
Will it fit copper pipe? Yes, it takes 15mm Hep2O pipe or 15mm metric copper. Old imperial copper is a slightly different size and will need an adaptor.
Can I use it on central heating? No. It is for hot and cold water up to 65°C, so keep it off heating circuits, solid fuel boilers and continuously circulating hot water.
Can I remove the valve later without cutting the pipe? Yes, the HepKey tool releases the joint cleanly, which is handy when it is tucked into a tight spot.
