Getting plastic pipe into or out of a storage tank calls for a Hep2O Tank Connector. Its threaded body goes through the side of the tank and a backnut clamps it, while the inner end is a Push Fit socket.
Fitting the Hep2O Tank Connector
Cut a clean hole in a flat part of the tank, away from ribs and corners. Fit the sealing washers so the tank wall is sandwiched, then do the backnut up firmly without distorting the plastic. Next, slide a Hep2O support sleeve into the cut end, then push that pipe home until the grip locks.
The 15mm x 1/2″ size suits cistern feeds, vent pipes and small outlets. The 22mm x 3/4″ size is the usual one for the main outlet from a loft cold water tank, feeding the cylinder and bathroom. Clip the pipe near the tank wall, so the connector is not hanging on it.

Can a Hep2O tank connector go on a hot tank?
No. Hep2O list it for cold water use only.
How big a hole does the tank connector need?
A hole that just clears the threaded tail. Use a hole saw of the right size and clean off any swarf.
Should the outlet be at the bottom of the tank?
Keep the outlet a little above the base so sediment stays in the tank.
