FloPlast Underground Double Socket Pipe Coupler 110mm

Joining two plain pipe ends underground is the job of the 110mm Underground Double Socket Pipe Coupler. It is a short sleeve with a Ring Seal socket at each end, so a plain ended pipe pushes in from either side and the two meet in the middle.

What it’s used for

If you’re laying plain ended pipe, you need one of these at every joint along the run. It is also what you use to put a cut length back together, connect pipe to the plain end of a fitting, or join an offcut onto a run to save wasting it.

Repairs are the other big use. Cut out a cracked bit of drain, measure the gap, and a pair of couplers with a piece of new pipe will put it back. For that sort of job, check whether you need a slip coupler, which has no centre stop and slides fully over the pipe. Ask at the counter if you’re not sure which you’ve got.

Fitting tips

• Chamfer both pipe ends and clean off the swarf.
• Lube the pipe ends and push each one into the coupler up to the stop.
• Pull back slightly so there is a gap to take up expansion.
• Scoop a small hole in the bedding so the coupler doesn’t carry the load of the pipe.

Common Questions

How do I repair a broken length of 110mm drain?

Cut out the damaged part, then put in a new piece of pipe with a coupler at each end. Repair couplers without a central stop slide fully over the pipe, which helps when space is tight.

Does a double socket coupler have a stop in the middle?

Most do, so each pipe goes in to the centre and stops. Check before you buy for a repair, because a coupler with a stop cannot be slid along the pipe.

Why dig a hollow under the coupler?

The pipe barrel should carry the load on its bed, not the bulge of the coupler. A small scoop in the bedding stops the coupler acting like a pivot point.
